名詞的格

格(case)，是名詞與代詞用于表示它和其他詞的關系的形式。英語名詞只有兩種格：通格(common case)，即名詞原形，是名詞作主語、賓語、表語、呼語等通用的形式。

The child works very hard.孩子非常勤奮地學習。

結構分析：Thechild是名詞詞組作主語，works是不及物動詞作謂語動詞，現在一般時，very hard是副詞詞組，作狀語，修飾謂語動詞。

I told the childa story. 給那個孩子講了一個故事。

結構分析：I是主語，told是tell的過去式，作謂語動詞，過去一般時，the child是間接賓語，a story是名詞詞組作直接賓語。

“tell sb. sth.”是固定結構，表示“告訴某人某事；給某人講某事”

The nurse bought some sweets for the child. 護士給那個孩子買了一些糖果。

結構分析：The nurse是名詞詞組作主語，bought是bring的過去式，作謂語動詞，過去一般時，some sweets是名詞詞組作賓語，for the child是介詞詞組作目的狀語。

It was the childwho broke the window. 是那個孩子打破了窗戶。

結構分析：這是一個強調句結構。It是形式主語，was是is的過去式，作系動詞或者謂語動詞，過去一般時，the child是名詞詞組作表語，who是定語從句的主語，同時起引導作用，broke是break的過去式，作謂語動詞，過去一般時，the window作賓語。

英語中的 “It is/was... who/that...” 結構用于強調句子的某個成分（主語、賓語、狀語等）。

Come here, child! 來這里吧，孩子！

結構分析：Come是不及物動詞，作謂語動詞，here是副詞，作地點狀語，child是主語。

屬格(genitive case)，由名詞加詞尾’s(apostrophe-s)構成。有關名詞屬格的問題表述如下:

2.名詞屬格表示的意義

1）所有，即被修飾的名詞表示的人或者物為屬格名詞表示的人或者物所有。

Dick's house    Ann's car

the earth 's gravity   China 's population

例句：The moon's gravity is a sixth as strong as the earth's.

月球的引力是地球引力的六分之一。

結構分析：The moon's gravity是名詞詞組作主語，is是系動詞或者謂語動詞，現在一般時，a sixth as strong as the earth's是表語，其中"the earth's"是省略形式，完整形式應為 "the earth's gravity"。

2)屬格名詞和被修飾名詞之間的人際或者職業關系。

Tom 's father   Ann 's husband

Mary's teacher   the boss 's new secretary

例句：The boss 's new secretary graduated from Colorado State University in 2017.

她于2017年畢業于科羅拉多州立大學。

結構分析：The boss 's new secretary是名詞詞組作主語，graduated是謂語動詞，過去一般時，from Colorado State University是介詞詞組作地點狀語，in 2017是介詞詞組作時間狀語。

3)邏輯主語，即被修飾名詞表示的動作的執行者。

Dr Smith 's answer  her parents’ consent

the boy's application   the train 'sarrival

例句：The boy's application was rejected out of hand.

男孩的申請立即遭到拒絕。

結構分析：The boy's applicatio是名詞詞組作主語，was rejected是被動謂語動詞（be動詞 + 過去分詞），過去一般時，out of hand是介詞詞組作方式狀語。

4)邏輯賓語，即被修飾名詞表示的動作的承受者。

the prisoner 's release    John 'spromotion

例句：Have you heard about John'spromotion?

你有沒有聽說約翰升遷了？

結構分析：you作主語，have heard是謂語動詞，現在完成時，about John's promotion是介詞詞組作狀語。

5)被修飾名詞表示的事物的來源。

my sister 's letter    Moliere’scomedies

the general's order    Jane Austin's novels

例句：The general's order is to engage at once.

將軍的命令是立刻進攻。

結構分析：The general's order是名詞詞組作主語，is是系動詞或者謂語動詞，現在一般時，to engage at once是動詞不定式詞組作表語。
